Jason Ringenberg & Farmer Jason Newsletter

Can't Hold Back Spring

Hello my friends.  Spring is starting to hit here in Tennessee. Yesterday I planted lettuce, radishes, and snow peas in our garden, and a few of our fruit trees are starting to blossom. It is so comforting to do simple things in complex times.

Two of my daughters, Addie and Camille, are home now doing their college classes via the Internet. It is so nice to have them home. They are like walking pillars of light and joy, so fun to be around.

So far, none of our friends or family is infected with the CV, but I am so saddened to see so many affected by it. I certainly have never seen anything like this.

We are taking it day by day regarding concerts. At this point, the Dutch tour in late April has been cancelled. The US, Belgium and Sweden summer shows are still on, but that can obviously change.
We will keep you posted, of course.

The last few months have been good ones for my career, both as Jason Ringenberg and Jason and the Scorchers.

The big news is The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has added a new exhibit for Jason and the Scorchers! We are in the timeline section around the mid-80s called "Guitars, Cadillacs: Country’s New Wave". Our exhibit consists of the outfit I wore in the White Lies video, the spurs Warner wore in that video, a poster from 1982 and great information about the band. We share the same section as Randy Travis, Steve Earle, Dwight Yoakam, and Roseanne Cash. Yeah, I’ll take that! In December, Peter Cooper (CMHOF Senior Director) showed me, Addie, Camille and Suzy the exhibit and then took us on a tour of the Hall giving us a personal commentary of his favorite items and stories. It was a magical day. I feel so deeply honored.

A GIANT thanks to everyone at the Hall for making this JATS exhibit happen, with special thanks Brenda Colladay who coordinated the project, Kyle Young and Peter. The CMHOF has kept the torch of real Country Music burning through dark times so often through all these decades. It is a world class gem, and an example of just how great a music museum can be. I am enormously proud to be part of it.

On the Jason Ringenberg front, in January I did the SiriusXM Radio Outlaw Country Cruise 5. It really is one of the coolest gigs on the planet. I loved every second of it. Where else can you see Steve Earle, go down one level and see Kris Kristofferson, and then run into Robbie Fulks doing a spontaneous set by the elevator!

Speaking of Robbie, he sat in with me for both of my full sets, and did the “In the Round” set at the Stardust Theater with me, Carlene Carter and Ray Willie Hubbard.  He added such flavor to my music. Golly, what a talent.

I sat next to Carlene Carter at the Stardust set. It moved me to tears when she sang “The Storms Are on the Ocean”, my favorite Carter Family song.

I closed the Outlaw Country Cruise 5 singing “Dead Inside” with the Supersuckers. Make no mistake about it, underpinning all that glorious noise and partying are a bunch of great songs. “Dead Inside” is my favorite song of theirs. It is a harrowing rock n roll song, perfectly written. I loved singing it with them.

Here are a couple (several more below) brilliant photos Trudi Knight took of us on the September Scorchers UK tour. She is a very gifted live photographer, capturing the “moment” so effectively. Thank you, Trudi.

Moving forward - with "stay at home" in mind - we've got some fun new things to share with you now and in the near future on Spotify, YouTube, Facebook and something special this Summer just for you true fans. More on that below.

To close, I do hope to be doing more shows this year as both Jason Ringenberg and Farmer Jason, but if that is not possible due to the pandemic, thanks to all of you who came out last year on the Stand Tall dates and the Jason and the Scorchers package tour. We will persevere through this.

God bless.
